We have participated in a scientific conference on volunteering

At the beginning of October, the volunteer coordinators of Caritas Alba Iulia participated in the Scientific Conference on Volunteering organized by the Faculty of Technical and Human Sciences at Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania.

The aim of the conference was to promote and recognise volunteering and to demonstrate its usefulness in the labour market.  The conference was hosted by various NGOs with first-hand experience of volunteering. In the first block, representatives of the University of Debrecen Faculty of Health spoke to the participants, followed by a first aid demonstration provided by the Salvatore Association. The project manager of Outward Bound Romania and three volunteers from abroad informed us about the opportunities for international volunteering supported by the EU. The last presentation of the morning was given by the Programme Officer of the St. Balázs Foundation, who gave us a guided tour of the Foundation’s daily life.

The second block was opened by our volunteer coordinators Beáta Bogdán and Gyöngyvér Fekete, who presented Caritas as an organisation and the volunteer opportunities within it. They also presented how to become a volunteer and talked about two research projects on volunteering in Transylvania and Covasna County. After the presentation, a project manager from the Community Foundation of Maros told about his experience of becoming a volunteer and becoming an employee. The conference was closed by two students from Sapientia University who presented research on the characteristics of volunteering among Hungarian high school students in Transylvania.
