Camp diary 3 – A cavalcade of colors

Good music and a clean smell fill the house. My fellow volunteers clean the corridors and toilets. I also find diligent brooming hands on the terrace. The boys are picking up, one by one, the rubberized pieces of carpet, so that the girls can sweep up the dirt. Outside and inside, the work, which was started yesterday, is still going on. The team inside is making skill-improving games, while outside they continue painting the stone wall in pastels and ‘rat-killing’ greens, recoloring the polished playground elements in willow green, and painting the photographer’s face with pink and royal blue. Apparently, you’re not a real volunteer if you don’t get paint on yourself or knock the skin off your finger.

The wooden tiles of the mineral water spring are painted by two boys with acrobatic skills. The climbing frame built yesterday is being decorated by a happy team. In the background logs lie, sturdy men are working on making more playground amusements.

A team also visited to Odorheiu Secuiesc today to do some landscaping in the front of a house. The workers here collect and transport old bricks and building rubble.

At 10 am it’s good to have a rest, braid your hair, eat some peaches. Then continue working in the sunshine, which we hope will stay with us in the afternoon, because we’re going to swim.

We would like to thank our partners for their support: Council of Harghita county, Communitas Foundation, aticream, Csíki Csipsz, Harmopan, Odorest, END-IBO, Vekker Kávéközösség, Bethlen Gábor Fund.
