Caritas YOUNG

One million stars for the needy

On Friday, together with some of my fellow volunteers, I had the opportunity to take part in the One million stars for solidarity action in Miercurea Ciuc.

This year, donations were collected to support underprivileged children, young people with disabilities, the sick and the elderly. As soon as I arrived, everyone was busy preparing for the evening. Everyone was given a task to make the work go more smoothly, some people helped with making the bread, with preparing the candles, with packing out things and preparing the place. These sessions also give us the opportunity to get to know each other a bit better, as we have had the chance to talk to each other while doing tasks together.

Time passed very quickly, so it seemed like a moment and we were already at the prepared tables when the first donators arrived and the songs, greetings and dance performances were sung, which made the evening even more colorful. As it began to get darker, the atmosphere became more and more pleasant, the star made of candles was visible from the distance, and more and more people stood around with a cup of steaming tea in their hands. The charity event was also a good opportunity to talk to people we haven’t seen for a long time.

I took so many precious moments with me, the many smiling faces I saw during the donations, so many kind glances. For me, what I felt there, was a really special and touching moment. I am truly grateful for being able to participate in this event.

This year, on the 14th of October, in six locations (Sovata, Odorheiu Secuiesc, Sângeorgiu de Mureș, Tîrgu-Mureș, Sfântu Gheorghe, Miercurea Ciuc), more than 2100 participants lit a candle, a symbol of solidarity. In addition to Caritas staff, 47 volunteers and numerous artists and performers contributed to the quality of the event. We are grateful!

The volunteering programme is supported by the Bethlen Gábor Fund. Thank you!
